Ernest Bennett Saws

Leading Saw Blade Manufacturing

As a family business that's grown to serve the North and South of the UK across generations, we're as proud of our heritage among the globally respected Sheffield industries as we are of our humble roots. By continuing to strive for the excellence that has transformed us, and led us from a local, to national, and finally to international marketplaces, we consistently exceed customer expectations and drive ourselves, and our clients, to achieve new successes. Our goal is always to provide value, quality and excellence.

We’re extremely proud of the reputation our blades have built up over more than half a century of production, and of our status as the leading UK manufacturer of all kinds of industrial blades, relied on by workshops around the country to deliver a flawless cut with every operation.

Ernest Bennett Saws stands out as a leading manufacturer of circular saws and bandsaws in the United Kingdom, thanks to a combination of heritage, craftsmanship, and cutting-edge technology. With 70 years of experience, the company has honed its expertise since its founding in 1956 by Ernest Bennett. This deep-rooted history has allowed Ernest Bennett Saws to perfect their processes and establish a reputation for producing industrial-quality blades that cater to both DIY enthusiasts and high-production manufacturers.

One key reason for their excellence is the use of premium materials. Ernest Bennett sources high-quality European steels, such as Uddeholm’s 148 grade (known as “UDDEHOLM 000”), which is prized for its toughness, elasticity, and wear resistance. For circular saws, Ernest Bennett Saws use precision-cut 75Cr1 and 80CrV steels, hardened to 42-44 Rockwell C, ensuring strength and longevity across a range of applications, from timber to steel.

Saws used in the timber processing industry are subjected to vast quantities of mechanical pressure and thermal stress over a continuous period which only the highest calibre of steel will be sufficient.

Ernest Bennett Saws’ manufacturing process is another standout factor. Employing state-of-the-art technology and machinery, CAD/CAM programming and precision laser cutting, they achieve tight tolerances and consistency that translate into smoother, quieter cuts with reduced vibration.

Circular saws benefit from robotic CNC grinding and automatic tipping with micro-fine cobalt carbide tips, tailored to specific cutting needs, while bandsaws are tensioned with automated machinery and manually inspected for flawless welds and edges. This blend of automation and human oversight ensures reliability and performance.

Ernest Bennett Saws’ commitment to customization also sets them apart. They produce saws in a vast range of sizes—circular saws from 75mm to 1200mm and bandsaws up to 30+ feet—tailored to customer specifications. Whether it’s a bespoke circular saw for cutting non-ferrous metals or a bandsaw for a sawmill, their flexibility meets diverse industrial demands.

Additionally, their comprehensive service, including sharpening and repairs, extends blade life, offering exceptional value.

With two UK facilities, in Sheffield and Darlington, employing over 100 people and covering 60,000 square feet, Ernest Bennett combines scale with meticulous attention to detail. Their focus on quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction has made their saws a trusted choice in workshops worldwide, solidifying their position as the UK’s premier saw manufacturer.

                                                                    70 years

Ernest Bennett founded Ernest Bennett (Sheffield) Ltd in 1956 to service and maintain all types of industrial saw blades and cutting tools, primarily wide band saw blades and circular saw blades, for which Sheffield was the world centre with its' strong steel making tradition. The company progressed into manufacturing shortly afterwards.

In 1964 the need arose for a facility in the North of England and Ernest opened Ernest Bennett & Co. (Darlington) Ltd with his nephew, Rob Maxey, to service the needs of the North of England, Scotland and Ireland.

With 70 years’ experience in manufacturing and servicing saw blades Ernest Bennett are the largest manufacturer of industrial saws in the UK, with over 100 people employed at the two sites and over 60,000 square feet of production space.

Ernest Bennett Saws remains a family company with 3 generations committed to providing Industrial quality sawblades to all our customers, whether they are DIY enthusiasts or high production industrial manufacturers. Our commitment to quality and service remain the same and we have continually invested in the most up to date equipment and facilities to enable us to achieve our objectives.
